Labour Market Symposium 2006

Members

The Labour Market Sub-Committee is comprised of representatives of business, labour and government. The committee is chaired by the Deputy Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment, with an equal number of members sitting on the committee for the business, labour and government caucuses. Each caucus is responsible for choosing its representatives for the committee.

Current Membership
Currently, the Labour Market Sub-Committee is comprised of six members from three different sectors including:

Government
  • Brenda Caul, Deputy Minister, Human Resources, Labour and Employment
  • Michael Alexander, Regional Executive Head, Service Canada
Business
  • John Peddle, Executive Director, Newfoundland and Labrador Health Boards Association
  • Marilyn Tucker, President, Newfoundland and Labrador Employers’ Council
Labour
  • Lana Payne, Research and Communications Officer, Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union/1st Vice President, Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour
  • Bert Blundon, Employee Relations Officer, Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees/Treasurer, Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour

Roles and Accountability
Members of the Labour Market Sub-Committee are responsible for ensuring they represent the current viewpoints of their constituencies and for reporting back on strategic directions and actions of the committee.

Members meet on a monthly basis, or more frequently as required, to meet the committee's objectives and mandate.

Other Stakeholder Input
The Labour Market Sub-Committee recognizes that broader stakeholder representation or specific expertise will be required to help fulfill its mandate. This may be achieved through:
  • expanded membership;
  • rotation of caucus representatives;
  • establishment of ad hoc working groups; and/or
  • inclusion of advisory staff, observers or other constituents on an as needed basis.

Committee Support
The Labour Market Sub-Commitee is supported by staff of the Labour Market Development Division, of the Department of Human Resources, Labour and Employment.

Designated staff of the Department work closely with the policy staff in the Strategic Partnership Secretariat to:
  • enhance labour market research, policy and analytical capacity;
  • carry out background work and communications to support on-going activities.
