Occupational Demand/Supply Forecasting Model:
The Labour Market Sub-Committee is currently overseeing a new initiative to develop
a provincial occupational supply and demand model.
This initiative is being carried out in partnership with the Department of Human
Resources, Labour and Employment with the support of other government departments
and community agencies, including the federal government through the Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Labour
Market Development Agreement.
Other Priorities for 2006/2007:
The Labour Market Sub-Committee has identified prior learning and assessment
for local workers and workplace training as two other priority areas for this year. Background research is currently being carried out to inform the committee about needs, best practices and strategies in these areas.

Provincial Labour Market Symposium
The Labour Market Sub-Committee co-hosted a provincial labour market symposium with the Department of Human Resources, Labour and Employment on October 30 and 31, 2006 in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.
The symposium brought together over 285 key labour market decision makers throughout the province and 60 national and provincial to speak to the latest labour market outlooks and best practises for human resource and labour market development and to discuss strategies for building healthy labour markets in the province.
